Pipe Taps and Dies

NPT Taper HS Pipe Taps

NPT (National Pipe Taper) high speed steel pipe taps have a taper of 3/4" per foot.
Ground Threads. High Speed Steel. Hand Taps.
This is the tap to use for ANPT applications.
NPT joints generally require a sealant.
NPTF (dryseal) is called for in high pressure situatuions.

Besides use on pipes, NPS threads are frequently found on lamps and lighting fixtures.
You may see them described as 1/8 IPS or 1/4 IPS.

The actual size of the thread is larger than the "nominal" size.
For example, 1/16-27 NPS threads are 5/16" (.3125") in diameter.

NPT Interrupted Thread HS Pipe Taps

NPT=3/4" per foot taper. Ground Threads. High Speed Steel.
Facilitates chip removal. Recommended for use in soft, ductile materials such as aluminum.
After the lead, every other thread in an interrupted thread pipe tap is removed to minimize the clogging of the threads.

Carbon Steel NPT Pipe Taps
