Long Taps and Oversize Taps

HS Fractional Plug Pulley Taps

H3 Ground Thread. High Speed Steel. 4 Flute Plug Style
Long pulley taps have a full diameter shank.
For example, a 1/4-20 pulley tap will have a 1/4" diameter shank.
They will thread at the bottom of a long hole that has enough clearance, but they will not make a 6" long thread.
To do that you need a long spiral point tap with an undercut shank.

HS Long Spiral Point Taps

Fractional Spiral Point Extension taps.
6" Long. National Coarse and National Fine sizes.
High Speed Steel. Ground Thread.

These taps have an undercut shank to allow making a long thread in a through-hole.

Spiral Point taps feature a chiseled point that pushes metal chips ahead of the forming threads.
Extremely useful for tapping through-holes (ie holes that extend through the work.) Often machine-driven.
Spiral Point taps are not recommended for use in blind holes: the accumulation of chips can tend to bind and break these taps more easily than others.

For all metals except magnesium.
Environmentally safe, water-based fluid.
Used for tapping, milling, drilling, etc.
Quickly penetrates to the cutting edge and reduces friction and heat generated during cutting.
Safer than chlorinated solvents or oils.
Intended to be used full strength (primarily through misting or direct application), and not in recirculators. The viscosity of these fluids makes pumping difficult.
